Radhanath Swami on Protecting our Dependents

Every one of us is a leader in some capacity. We could be parents, teachers, managers, community leaders or big influential people with lots of followers. What is our duty to our dependents? Not just dynamic speeches, but giving them something that will really affect them. What pleases the Lord is the sacrifices you make in your life for the welfare of others.

Emotional care is especially important for everyone - make them feel valuable and appreciated for whatever little they may be doing. It could be just by a glance, a smile or a few kind words. Even when chastised, they should feel, "He is correcting me because he cares for me, he is helping me, he is protecting me." If this is achieved, they are inspired and will strive to accomplish whatever goals we set for them. If we chastise someone and it breaks their hearts, we are not doing it right. If they do not feel protected, whatever else we do is like building a house without a foundation. Everything will fall apart. If we are sincere, the Lord will empower us.

  1. Many times when we think of leader, an image of some famous personality comes to mind. But as Radhanath swami is pointing so aptly, everyone is leader in some capacity. If no one is dependent on him then he could be leader of himself. Our sincerity will decide the empowerment given, as Radhanath swami points out. Thank you.

That should indeed be the basis of our relation with our dependents as well so that they can all tread the righteous path as shown by Radhanath Swami.

  25. His Holiness Radhanath Swami maharaj has brought 3 things in focus regarding protection of dependents: 1) focus on foundation - investments in relationships and the emotional deposits. 2) austerity of speech - speak the truth but should be palatable and with an intention to do good and 3)mood of a caretaker - shelter giver himself is the shelter taker (from God)
Natural leaders of the society must teach by example - the teachers, the parents and the heads of state. But Radhanath Swami is careful to point out that every one of us must be exemplary because we may be role models to someone unknowingly.

  31. Radhanath Maharaj Ki jai !!!!

I really want to thank Maharaj for this message on emotional care. We might execute big projects but if we do not give care and love to the devotees these big projects will not last for long. So very ofter we miss out on this aspect of emotional care. It is very very important to make each and every person feel valued and appreciated... Then and only then can we contribute to the mission of Srila Prabhupad and Lord chaitanya properly. Thank you very much Maharaj for this valuable lesson.
We feel extremely grateful to have your mercy in the form of your teachings.
