Radhanath Swami on Free Will

Experience is the best teacher and a fool learns by no other way. In fact even after experiencing very rarely does one make the right choices. The nature of life is that at every moment we have choice. We may desire for selfish egoistic gratification and contemplate on that or we can contemplate on God. We have a choice within our minds whether we are going to surrender to the dictations of the mind and senses or whether we are going to take shelter of God and fight against ignoble, immoral, unfavorable thoughts. We have a choice of glorifying God or criticizing others. And we have a choice over our actions – we can act impious or we can act in the service of the Lord. That is free will. We always have that free will.

  1. God, out of love for us, grants us this free will so that we may learn to love Him. What is that love that is forced and not heart-felt?

  2. Really, what Radhanath Maharaja is revealing here is such a simple and sublime truth - that life is nothing but a series of choices! Yet it is very difficult to choose the right one at the right time. The greatest inspirations are great souls like Srila Prabhupada and his disciples like Radhanath Maharaja that they'll be pleased if I can make the right choice in life.

  7. This is very important principle Radhanath Swami has explained here. People usually say that whatever happens does happen by the will of the Lord and there is nothing in their hands, and Radhanath Swami has very clearly stated here that that's not the case. Our activities are performed not as per the plan, but as per our free will for which Lord never interfares.

  8. Thanks Maharaj for such a detailed explanation. If we propely utilize our free will and try to focus or keep Krishna in the center, it will be good for us in long term
