Radhanath Swami on What Motivates Renunciation

Some people think that the process of renunciation without going through all the pleasures and sufferings of life is improper and ineffective. Their philosophy is: "Let them suffer, then enjoy, then suffer and in this way let them become broken-hearted. Let them have families, power and position. And when they really get attached to it, let them realize that it is all empty. When they realize that everything is temporary then they will automatically take to the path of renunciation." However, saintly people explain that one never becomes renounced by suffering in this world; real renunciation comes by association of devotees, whatever the stage of life.

  2. The truth of life in this material world is being revealed by HH Radhanath Swami here. The mind always keeps on pulling us towards the sense objects and keeps us away from advancing towards Krishna. Thank you Radhanth Swami for this gem of knowledge.

  4. Wonderfully stated by Radhanath Swami!
Real renunciation comes by association of devotees and not by suffering in this world. Even if one becomes renounced because of suffering in this world, it will just be temporary affair and will not last long.

  8. Radhanath Swami is right! Real sintly persons are intelligent and do not have " to fall in the pit " or "experience " to know that there is danger ahead. If they see the " warning sign" or "hear from someone "they know they have to take precaution

  13. Yes. If we just rennounce without understanding the very purpose of it, it'd not be satisfying us, but if we understand the importance of association with devotees, that would help us understand what renunciation really means,

  16. Yes....the earlier type of false renunciation that Radhanath Swami mentions is when, we are keeping ourselves at the center of the picture

Association of devotees will make us realize that Krishna is center and He is the owner and proprietor of everything. This is a complete picture of renunciation. Detachment from material world + attachment to Krishna....thank you so much Radhanath Swami

  21. The words spoken by Radhanath Swami Maharaj is full of wisdom & truth - renunciation cannot be achieved simply through the trial & error process of experiencing pain & joy of this material world alternatively. It has to be cultivated meticulously by learning & practicing in the association of saintly people, by following their instructions with humility & sincerity.

  27. Even after suffering people never give up cheating themselves that maybe something else - some other form of enjoyment - will work. Only by associating with genuine compassionate saints such as Radhanath Swami and his family of aspiring devotees can one hope to get disillusioned and begin the journey of true bliss.

  28. Thank you Radhanath Swamiji. It is not possible that after defeat against material nature one may select a path of runinciation.Infact defeat may lead such person to go deep and deep into nature's intracasis.Therfore at any given time if anyone associates with devotees of Lord Krishna then he can become proper runinciant at that time only.

  29. Yes, the only hope for some one trapped in this material existence is Sadhus - because they teach how to transcend this world.

On our own we go in cycles of bhoga-tyaga - enjoy then suffering comes, so renounce. Then some feeling of respite of suffering comes...then back again to enjoy...inviting suffering...
