Radhanatha Swami on Critical Faith

It is not about the future or the past. We should be convinced, “Yes, God is here and He’s accepting what we are doing". When we have that conviction we can put our complete heart into what we are doing. Because devotional service is about offering our love in whatever we do. How could we actually offer our love with substance if we are not convinced that God is right here at this moment watching and accepting? So this faith is very critical. Great saints say that we gain faith by associating with devotees and especially by hearing and chanting with them. And if we find that our faith is not so strong, we really, seriously need to develop it by associating with devotees who have faith, by serving people who have faith, by hearing from people who have faith, by practicing what’s favorable for developing that faith and avoiding those things that are unfavorable for cultivating that faith. Because at the time of greatest need we are going to call out for God with the faith that He hears us and that He is with us. Otherwise, what kind of calling out will that be? It will be an envelope with nothing inside or with an illegible message.

  7. In our daily lives we blatantly put faith on many things. When we go to clinic we put faith in the doctors, while boarding a flight we put faith in the pilot, while purchasing a medicine we put faith in the chemist, while joining a school or college we put faith in the teachers, while taking up a job we put faith in the employers and the list goes on.
However unfortunately on Lord, who is the source of everything, we don’t have much faith.
When Krishna says in Bhagavad – gita surrender to me I will deliver you from all the sins we don’t believe. When Krishna says that this material world is temporary and full of suffering we don’t believe. And since we are not believing on the words of the Lord who is the properitor and our greatest well – wisher so we suffer.
We have the example of Bhakta Prahlad, he was just 5 years old, but had tremendous faith in the Lord. And Lord was always there to protect him. We should follow the footsteps of Prahlad and put our faith in Lord.

All of us has to accept that Lord is there with us to help us, to take care of us, to tell/teach us what is good or bad, but to cultivate this faith it is must to associate with people who have faith and when we practice devotional service with these people, we also relish the relationaship which gets created by this faith. Thank you Radhanath Swami for this wonderful message.
