Radhanath Swamy on Spirituality Makes One More Productive

A mother will work twenty-four hour shifts for her little baby. How many men will work twenty-four hour shifts for their boss? Some may but they won’t be very happy about it. But a mother is on call twenty-four hours a day, not only on call but usually busy. And when babies cry mothers don't sleep for days, what to speak of cases where one has twins or triplets. The mother does not get paid anything, but she experiences full satisfaction because she is motivated by love and affection. So this is a nonsense theory that if I become spiritual, if I become dedicated to a spiritual path, then I will become unproductive. No, you become more productive but for the right cause, for the right ideal. Love is a more powerful force than greed or egoism. That is what spirituality is about. That is what the Bhagavad-Gita teaches.

  1. Such a nice point mentioned by Radhanath Swami. It is true that many people consider taking up spirituality as a mad thing or something that should be done by people who have nothing else to do in life or by someone who wants to shirk away his responsibilties. This article is a straight reply to clarify these misunderstandings.

  7. Very true. If we start loving Lord and if he becomes our centre of activity then we work with more enthusiasm and efficiency. Just like Arjuna who fought the battle because it was Krishna’s desire.

  8. This is a dilemma every spiritualist faces and Arjun very nicely depicts this mood in Bhagavad Gita - give up war and take to begging...However Krsna does not accept that proposal and Radhanath Swami explains with a beautiful example above

  12. Such a deep message "Love is a more powerful force than greed or egoism" and that's verty true. If we see deep inside anyone's heart, we will crealy see how everyone of us is yarning for something which is nothing but love and since we try to get that in this material world, we become frustrated because of its nature.
