Radhanath Swami on The "I" Society

Today’s world is the ‘I’ society. Everyone is thinking about "me". But there’s a problem. We don’t know who we are. It’s alright if we’re really thinking about ‘I’, but who am I? If we are thinking this false ego is ‘I’ then it creates discontent ultimately. There’s so much potential conflict with almost anybody: brothers fighting, husbands and wives fighting, nations fighting. But I am the eternal soul, there’s nothing to fight about. If we are the eternal soul then there is love in our heart, and where there’s love, the greatest pleasure is selfless service. A selfish person eats and is happy. A selfless person finds more happiness in feeding others. A father has some love for the child, has some affection for the child. What brings the father more happiness – doing something for the child or doing something for himself? If there’s affection, obviously he would be more happy doing something for the child, even if he has to suffer doing it.

Radhanath Swami points out that once we choose – "me" or "we" – everything else follows accordingly.

  5. Wonderful article !

Thank you so much Maharaj for enlighten us.

    This is actaully 'Identity crisis'.

Every body says I am this, I am that etc. based on bodily platform but that bodily designations are temporary. No body knows when they are going loose that designations.

It is really pitiable situation that, eventhough every one is fighting each other and suffering or rotting in this material world, no one realised as they are... Material energy of Lord Krishna is so powerful that we can't realise the facts as it is .. and cross over unless and untill surrender to His dust of Lotus feet. This is very practical simply by following and surrendering to bonafied guru like HH Radhanath swami maharaj.

All Glories to HH Radhanath swami maharaj.

Beautiful point Radhanath Swami makes here on how a father is more happy doing something for the child than for himself.

  15. Selfishness is the root of all our problems.

  16. Indeed, if we realise our eternal constitutional identity in relation to God, then like Radhanath Swami mentioned in the article, there will be a sense of complete satisfaction within. This will inevitably lead to total peace of mind & we would be more inclined to serve others rather than serving our own interests.

  19. Amazing analysis of today's 'I' society. All the quarrels individually and collectively is happening because of mis-identification of 'I.

  27. Rightly said. The concept "I" will keep one away from the God.Because in kingdom of the God there is only pure loving exchanges and nothing else.It is better to understand and follow practically what Swamiji says in this article.Thank you very much.

  30. What Radhanath Swami says here is extremely true. The present day society has degenerated to a level where the individual is now the center instead of God being the center.

  34. I read somewhere else following quote by Radhanath swami Maharaj
Therefore with proper intelligence we must know that real enjoyment, real pleasure is in finding peace of mind and love of god within our own heart.
