Radhanath Swami on Helpless Chanting
The opulences of high birth, beauty, knowledge, fame and strength that are so dear to materialistic people, that they spend their whole life trying to achieve, are the greatest disqualifications for a devotee, because they make one proud or they make one complacent. And then even if he chants the holy names, it is not with sincere feelings. It will just be mechanical. God is the property of those who feel, "I have nothing but You, my Lord. There is nothing else that can protect me. The world is a dreary void without You, my Lord." That is the mood in which we should throw our hands up in surrender and chant the names of God.

we should carefully try to imbibe the mood HH Radhanath Swami Maharaj is emphasising
ReplyDeleteSO True. If our chanting lacks seriousness we will just not give an earnest attempt to it and it then becomes mechanical.
ReplyDeleteSincere Chanting should be the focus of our life.
we falsely believe we are great and have so many things at our command...these things maybe taken away in a second...

ReplyDeleteAmazing message from Radhanath Swami. Thanks for sharing it.
ReplyDeleteAs Maharaj says a person without these material opulence- high birth, high education, beauty, big wealth should feel blessed that he is away from one obstacle that pushes him/her away from Krishna. But in this material world, we behave the opposite way. If don't have these opulence, we work hard to get them instead of spending our effort and time in getting closer to Krishna.
ReplyDeleteHere Maharaja's teaching is important to understand...
Our only hope is to surrender to God in a helpless mood
ReplyDeleteTo chant in helpless state of consciousness, one has to become detached and Swamiji often says real detachment is detachment from false ego.
ReplyDeleteThank you for enlightening, Maharaj
