Radhanath Swami on Synthetic Religion

This is an age of synthetics. Automobiles now have more plastic than metal, furniture now has more plastic than wood. Imitation synthetic jewelry is definitely here to stay. As long as it looks good, we don’t mind even if it’s not the real thing. This attitude is especially prominent in the field of religion. We are more concerned with performing some external rituals to impress others. We are biased towards the particular form of religion we follow. But unfortunately, we don’t seek the true spirit, the essence, and the purpose behind religion.

  1. What is the point in being fanatical when we don't even know the essence of religions. Outward show is meaningless without inner purity and clarity of concepts and purpose

  2. Such a wonderful analogy to describe how artificial our lives have become! But Radhanath Swami warns us that this artificiality should not percolate into our relation with God.

  3. Very true. Today many like proudly call themselves followers of a particular religion without even bothering to know the real spirit/teachings behind it. This in turns leads up to superficiality in the practice of religion, misunderstanding/disrespect towards believers in other religion and show bottle religion. Thank you dear Radhanath Swami maharaj for sharing this major prevalent issue with the understanding of the religion with such simple analogy.

  10. Radhanath Swami maharaj's message from Fox News: -
Everyone is looking for pleasure. Whatever sex or nationality or religion or even species, everyone is looking for pleasure. And the essence of pleasure is to love and to be loved. And that pleasure is dormant within the heart of every living being. And to access that love within us is the true fulfillment that we’re all looking for, it’s the purpose of every great religion, to seek the essence within ourselves, our relationship with God and our relationships with all living beings. And to be an instrument of compassion is the greatest need in this world. And to go beyond sectarian concepts and really search for the essence within our self is where we can find true peace, true fulfillment and be an instrument of that to others. And we believe that chanting divine sound vibrations or mantras helps us to awaken and access that source of love that’s within all of us.

  15. Radhanath Swami Maharaj aptly summarizes the concept of religion today. Here he tells us how a conscious effort needs to be made to understand the basics of religion and not simply claim to be a follower on the basis of external practice.

  16. Very truly said by Radhanat Swami Maharaj.
People want a religion that will reflect the ideals they believe in, very rearly looking out for the purpose of religion

  18. And the worst thing is people misunderstand synthetic religion with real religion. But that's not the case with jewelery or automobile parts.

  21. Yes, we see this acceptance of cheap and imitation things in almost every walk of life. Radhanath Swami is urging us here to go beyond the superficial facade of things especially in spiritual matters and seek deeper and real meaning of things.
