Radhanath Swami on The Pure Devotee
There are two types of pure devotees. One who has actually cleaned one's heart through glorification of the Lord is a pure devotee. Another type of pure devotee is one who, even though influenced by the material modes of passion, ignorance and goodness, has taken shelter of the instructions of an authorized spiritual master. Such a devotee doesn't strive for economic development, sense gratification, honour and prestige, elevation to heavenly planets, mystic powers or even liberation. He only strives for the ideal of eternal servitude to the Lord, and is not willing to give up until the Lord accepts his service. For example, one who may be dirty but is determined to stay in the bath till the dirt is removed, is also considered clean.
